Mary oxendine

Lumbee Tribe, Tuscarora Tribe of NC

“REA has empowered me to see myself as a powerful matriarch. The coaching, deeply supportive environment, and technical skills I am learning are helping me paint a clearer vision for how I can support my Native community and shift power and resources to Black, Indigenous, and People of Color and working-class communities.'“

Mary is a member of the Lumbee Tribe and Tuscarora Tribe of North Carolina and grew up on the contemporary lands of the Lumbee Tribe in Robeson County, NC. Mary has a background in public health research, food security, and community development. She is passionate about developing generational wealth and health in marginalized communities, especially in Indigenous communities. Mary has a BA in Public Policy from UNC-Chapel Hill and a MS in Nutrition from Meredith College.

  • Fun Facts

I’m a strong empath and connect deeply with people.

I enjoy gardening and am learning so much from my plant sisters and kayekati:θʔáh (children). I dream of having an eatable backyard and orchard.

Using my Indigenous values to build a better world for future generations is what drives me and gives me purpose.
