“It is often difficult to break into the venture capital investment space, and it is especially challenging for indigenous womxn to enter spaces and change the institutional systems which have historically gatekept underrepresented individuals from decision-making positions. Through this program, I hope we share our collective knowledge to enter these institutional spaces and are empowered to invest in tech, products, and services that positively represent and influence indigenous communities."

Maria Lopez is passionate about achieving equity for low-income, first-generation, indigenous, and immigrant communities through education and economic empowerment. Maria believes in the power of intentional capital to transform communities and reshape current systems. At Illumen Capital, Maria focuses on sourcing and investing in overlooked fund managers. Prior to joining Illumen Capital, Maria served various Bay Area nonprofits aimed to decrease the education gap for students of color through resources, mentorship, and advocacy. At Stanford University, Maria earned her B.A. in Psychology and MA in Latin American Studies. Maria is a QuestBridge scholar and received the undergraduate award for excellence.
