“REA has had a profound personal impact through its centering of rematriation in our collective learning spaces and by prioritizing learning from, and with, other Indigenous women. For me, this has been both familiar, as it reminds me of the communal ways that I was taught lessons as a child; and healing, as my Indigeneity has been centered and understood in a professional context for the first time. REA is deepening my understanding of the social impact and investment sectors while offering a more expansive and culturally-aligned perspective that honors equity, healing, and community-empowerment.”

Kelly Hubbell-Hinton is Diné, and she is To’ahaní (Near to Water clan) and born for Dibe’lizhini (Black Sheep clan). She is proud to come from a family of educators and culture-holders, and grew up on the Diné Nation in a multi-generational home. Kelly has enjoyed a vibrant career of over 15 years in the nonprofit and education sectors working as an educator, family and youth advocate, and fundraiser. Kelly holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education and a Master’s degree in Social Work and is skilled in narrative creation, elevating community voices and forging relationships. Her passion for equity and healing have led Kelly to the social impact sector and she is an inaugural member of the Rematriating Economies Apprenticeship, created to elevate and influence the financial investment space toward economic liberation for Indigenous women. Kelly believes in voice and action and that we are all deserving of safe and liberating spaces. She currently resides in Houston, TX with her husband where they organize community wellness spaces that promote joy and belonging.

  • A Life Mantra

“The pursuit of our own healing and freedom has the power to transform our communities and the world. The freer we become on an individual, cellular level, the more freedom we bring to our relationships, our families, our neighborhoods, our communities.”

  • Fun Facts

I love supporting community-focused and BIPOC-led initiatives by bringing my love of organizing, writing and strategizing. I am currently supporting BLK Beetles in their wellness initiatives, I have served as co-Editor for Indigenous Goddess Gang in the past, and organized summer art camps with community artists called I Am Art. It brings me joy to see others' visions come to life!

I really enjoy hiking and finding new trails in cities. I am planning for my first trail run experience in 2024 and I am equally excited and nervous!

I have a deep love for books and reading creative fiction and memoirs. I have been immersing myself in stories since I was young and have an extensive home library. My dream is to open a bookstore filled with Indigenous stories!
